FUN FACTS

Why the Different Toes?

Duck has webbed feet, which work like paddles to help her zoom through the water. Chicken has long, sharp toes made for digging and gripping branches. That’s why Duck is a great swimmer and Chicken is a great climber!

Tongs vs. Tweezers

A duck’s bill has tiny little ridges on the edges called lamellae. These act like a strainer, letting the water out while keeping the yummy bugs and seeds inside—just like a pair of tongs! A chicken’s beak is hard and pointy, perfect for picking up one tiny grain at a time, just like tweezers.

The Mystery of the Egg

Why are Duck eggs bigger? Because ducklings have to be ready to swim almost the moment they hatch! They need more "fuel" (yolk) inside the egg to grow big and strong before they come out. Eggs also come in so many different colors!

What People Are Saying

This is how we prepare the Coop for an oncoming snow storm or hurricane.

Chickens lay eggs everyday!

When you have chickens and ducks in your backyard, you will always get unique visitors!

Chickens and Ducks don’t mind the snow. Their feet stay at 35 degrees all year round, so it stays just above freezing in the winter and cools them off in the summer.
